City is going for gold.

In a competition with eight other cities, NYC2012, the committee leading New York's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games, sent its written submission to the International Olympic Committee in Switzerland last week.

"We are excited at this opportunity to show what New York can offer the Olympic Movement, "said Daniel L. Doctoroff, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Rebuilding for the City of New York and NYC2012 Founder. "This is a great race with world-class cities and we look forward with great anticipation to the next year and a half as we strive to make New York's Olympic dream a reality."

New York is competing against Havana, Istanbul, Leipzig, London, Madrid, Moscow, Paris and Rio de Janeiro for the right to host the Olympic Games in 2012: The International Olympic Committee will select a host for the 2012 Games on July 6, 2005 in Singapore.

The committee sent a 65-page questionnaire, the aim of which it to provide the IOC with an overview of each city's plan to host the Olympic Games and to determine whether this corresponds to the needs of the Olympic Movement.

The questions touch upon all central themes, including transportation, venue planning, security, accommodations and the environment.
