City hopes $25,000 water grant is on tap.

Calls for voluntary water conservation are still in order, city officials said May 28, despite enough rain this winter to prevent mandatory water cuts for businesses and residents.

The city is still promoting wise water use and conservation, says Kristen Crane, water conservation manager.

The city has turned off irrigation systems this year at parks and publicly maintained landscaped areas and installed a drinking fountain for dogs at a local dog park that uses less water than a spigot, officials say.

The city has also applied for a $25,000 grant from the Metropolitan Water District to install weather-based irrigation controllers throughout Poway Royal Mobile Estates, a city-owned mobile-home park, and other city properties, officials say.
