City accepting applications for Planning Commission.Byline: The Register-Guard The city of Springfield Springfield. 1 City (1990 pop. 105,227), state capital and seat of Sangamon co., central Ill., on the Sangamon River; settled 1818, inc. as a city 1840. is now accepting applications for three positions on the city Planning city planning, process of planning for the improvement of urban centers in order to provide healthy and safe living conditions, efficient transport and communication, adequate public facilities, and aesthetic surroundings. Commission. Applications may be picked up in the city manager's office in City Hall, 225 Fifth St. The deadline to apply is May 15. The City Council on June June: see month. 4 will select three people to fill positions on the commission. The chosen applicants will be appointed by the council to serve four-year terms. The seven-member, volunteer Planning Commision makes recommendations to the City Council about projects and plans that affect growth and development in Springfield. Commission meetings are regularly held in the evening, on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
