City University Associate Dean to Speak at the Global Conference on Business and Economics.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Dr. Marvin Will is scheduled to present his finance paper on accounting scandals to 200 distinguished professors at the 2006 Global Conference on Business and Economics at Cambridge University. The conference, which runs July 6-8, will host leading business professors from the world's most prestigious universities. Will's paper titled, "The Role of Performance in an Accounting Scandal: An Insider's Perspective on How Things Went Wrong," analyzes a major accounting scandal from a behavioral finance perspective, and draws conclusions about the operation of financial markets and recent measures to prevent fraud. E[acute accent]Will's paper, which will be published in the International Journal of Business and Economics, was selected through a double-blind peer review process, and is the result of over five hours of in-depth interviews with a former corporate CFO who was convicted, and served jail time, for his role in a nationally reported accounting scandal. "The research shows that complex social dynamics at a micro level may be more powerful than logic or greed," comments Dr. Marvin Will, associate dean/director of graduate programs, City University School of Management. "If this picture is accurate, one implication is that the current approaches to teaching and enforcing business ethics are seriously misguided."
