City Tories in call to cut tax on savings.

COVENTRY City Council's Conservative leaders have called on the Government to consider plans to abolish income tax on savings and raise pensioners' personal allowance.

It is part of a national campaign to help basic rate tax payers who are affected by the slump in interest rates.

Under their proposals, they would pay no tax at all, while pensioners under the age of 75 could benefit from a tax allowance of pounds 11,490, an increase of pounds 2,000.
