City Racing 1988-1998: A Partial Account.INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) is a modern art centre on The Mall in London, England. It is located within Nash House, which is part of Carlton House Terrace, near the Duke of York Steps and Admiralty Arch and contains galleries, a theatre, two cinemas and a bar. In 1993, betting shop-turned-gallery City Racing City Racing was a not-for-profit art gallery in a former betting shop premises in Kennington, near the Oval cricket ground, South London between 1988 and 1998. It was a cooperative by five artists Matt Hale, Paul Noble, John Burgess, Keith Coventry and Peter Owen. hosted Gillian Wearing's photo series "Signs that say what you want them to say and not signs that say what someone else wants you to say." A twist on Wearing's title--galleries that show what you want them to show--might offer a neat summary of the innovative showroom's ethos. Ten years of independent, not-for-profit programming came to an end in December 1998, but the story continues in ICA Ica (ē`kä), city (1993 pop. 108,724), capital of Ica dept., SW Peru, on the Pan-American Highway. John William Burgess (1844–1931) was a pioneering American political scientist. Burgess was born in Tennessee and fought for the Union in the American Civil War. , Keith Coventry, Matt Hale, Paul Noble, and Peter Owen are featured, alongside Sarah Lucas, Jemima Stehli, Ceal Floyer, Lucy Gunning, and other key exhibitors.
