City Council boss's pounds 483 Opus claim.


THE CHIEF executive of Birmingham City Council claimed almost pounds 500 on taxpayer-funded expenses for a dinner to discuss "efficiency savings".

A Freedom of Information request found Stephen Hughes Stephen Hughes is the name of:
  • Stephen Hughes (politician) (born 1952), British MEP for North East England
  • Stephen Hughes (English footballer) (born 1976), English footballer who plays for Coventry City
 to be among council chief executives making extravagant claims on expenses.

Mr Hughes earns pounds 210,000 a year, Prime Minister Gordon Brown only gets pounds 194,000.

Yet, Mr Hughes' total claim for expenses since he came to the city in 2006 was pounds 5,709.35. He came to Birmingham after being finance director at Brent Council, North London North London is a part of London, England which has several possible definitions. River & geography

Among the items he claimed back for, was a pounds 483.30 Opus dinner meeting to discuss how to achieve "efficiency savings" at the council. Mr Hughes is not averse a·verse
