City Council Approves Land Sale to Bring Retail to Kannapolis Gateway Business Park.

MarkPiercePoole Properties, Inc. has purchased 12.8 acres of land in the Kannapolis Gateway Business Park from the City of Kannapolis. The Kannapolis City Council approved the deal for a price of $1,835,317 at the council meeting on Monday Monday: see week. , April 25. The commercial development firm plans to build a neighborhood retail center on the property.

MarkPiercePoole will invest a projected $12 million in the retail project, resulting in an estimated $103,000 in new property and sales taxes sales tax, levy on the sale of goods or services, generally calculated as a percentage of the selling price, and sometimes called a purchase tax. It is usually collected in the form of an extra charge by the retailer, who remits the tax to the government.  to the City once completed.

MarkPiercePoole Properties will also start construction on a new 50,000 square foot shell building on four acres fronting Highway 73. Kannapolis Gateway Business Park is expected to create 600 new jobs and generate $50 million in private investment once it is built out.
