Transient jailed

as stabbing suspect

SPRINGFIELD - A 44-year-old transient was stabbed in the neck and lower back during a drunken dispute, and police arrested a second transient in the attack.

The victim walked to the police department from Island Park to report that he had been stabbed about 10 p.m. Thursday, police said. Officers saw that his neck was bleeding and called for an ambulance.

He was taken to McKenzie-Willamette Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said. Officers went to the park and found a man with blood on both of his hands and a knife.

The man was with several people who appeared to have been drinking, police said. Police don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

Microsoft buys office complex for millions

REDMOND, Wash. - Microsoft Corp. quietly pulled off a major real estate deal, paying $142.2 million for an office complex near its main campus here.

Microsoft had leased the four-building, 610,000-square-foot LakeRidge Square complex since its completion in 2000 on a 15-acre property.

Microsoft closed the deal Dec. 19. At $233 per square foot, the company paid top dollar, the Eastside Journal reported.

In September, the company paid $74 million for another local business site - the headquarters of Spacelabs Medical Inc., a two-building, 389,000-square-foot complex on 14 acres.

Microsoft's main campus contains 4.2 million square feet of office space and its nearby Redwest Campus has 674,867 square feet.

Keizer firefighters honored in will

KEIZER - Firefighters here were surprised to learn Friday that they had been willed more than $26,000 from the estate of a resident impressed by their work.
