Originally named the Institute of British Architects in London awards and regional chair Roger Stephenson Roger Stephenson OBE (born London 1946) is an acclaimed English architect and one of the partners of Stephenson Bell Architects in Manchester, England. Background Stephenson studied architecture at the Liverpool University School of Architecture. praised them, saying: "The shortlist and the magnificent seven winners demonstrate once again the remarkably high standard of architecture in the north west." The three winners were new swimming facilities at Formby pool, the Unity Building in Liverpool's Chapel Street and the Liver Street car park, within the Paradise Street development, which judges praised, saying: "Although this is a tough building type and the materials necessarily harsh, the jury felt this was a powerful contribution to the rapidly growing urban context in which it stands, well conceived and carefully positioned." Other winning projects from 26 nominated schemes and a 12-strong shortlist were in Altrincham, Blackpool, Burnley and Manchester. The winners go through to the Riba national awards in London next month, which formthe longlist for the Riba Stirling prize.
