Drivers in some sections of Lane County may have to deal with patchy PATCHY - A Fortran code management program written at CERN.  fog as they head out the door this morning, a National Weather Service spokesman in Portland said Monday night.

Storm clouds that moved through the area Monday afternoon are gone for good, but an upper ridge of high pressure will bring down morning temperatures, resulting in areas of fog that could return tonight and Wednesday morning, the weather service said. The fog should give way to sunshine later in the day.

On Monday, .14 inch of rain fell in Eugene, with the final rain shower moving out of the area about 4 p.m. Hailstorms were reported in parts of both Marion and Linn counties Linn County is the name of four counties in the United States:

and thunder and lightning were visible all over northwest Oregon, the weather service said.

More showers are expected to arrive Thursday, although thunder and lightning probably won't accompany the rain, the weather service said.

Police exercise yields more tickets

Eugene police cited 29 drivers on Monday morning at the intersection intersection /in·ter·sec·tion/ (-sek´shun) a site at which one structure crosses another.

 safety.

The department's fourth and final pedestrian safety operation of the year resulted in six citations for failing to yield. Another 23 drivers were cited for other traffic infractions such as not wearing a seat belt, illegal U-turns, insurance violations and illegal lane changes.

Police said they posted warning signs at the intersection on Sunday to let drivers know about the patrol.

The first three patrols occurred in May, June and August. In total, the four patrols resulted in 104 vehicles being stopped for failing to yield to pedestrians, with 72 drivers cited. The other 32 drivers were given warnings, police said.

Fewer drivers were cited for failing to yield to pedestrians on Monday than in the earlier operations. Police said the reduction was due in part to a Roosevelt Middle School crossing guard who staffed the intersection during part of the patrol.

All four operations were done at intersections with marked crosswalks and clear visibility. Citations were issued when officers saw drivers failing to stop for pedestrians who had completely entered the crosswalk, police said.
