Masked pair hold up convenience store

SPRINGFIELD - Sheriff's deputies continued to search Tuesday for two masked men who robbed a lone convenience store clerk of more than $100 Monday night.

The robbery occurred about 9:45 p.m. at the Korner Market at 4266 Jasper Road, police said. The men displayed no weapons, and no one was injured.

They entered the store and told the clerk to open the cash register and step away from the counter, Lane County sheriff's Sgt. Art West said.

One man - the younger of the two - walked behind the counter, took about $120 in cash and placed it in a plastic bag held by the second man who stood on the other side of the counter near the door, West said.

The clerk described the younger man as in his 20s, 5-feet-8, 180 pounds and wearing a black ski mask and gloves and dark clothing, West said. As the man left the store, he also took several packs of Marlboro cigarettes.

The other man was heavier and older with wrinkles around his eyes. The clerk was unsure of the man's age, weight and height. He was wearing fingerless gloves, a black ski mask and a coat that may have had a sports team logo on it, West said.

Police ask that anyone with information call Sgt. Matt Keetle at 682-4311.

An autopsy is scheduled for today. No obvious signs of trauma were visible, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
