Employees called the fire department and evacuated the store at about 8:30 p.m. Springfield firefighters traced the smoke to worn out bearings on a heating and ventilation unit on the roof. The store remained evacuated until its usual closing time at 9 p.m. Fire officials said it's not uncommon for the systems to go bad.
