Alcohol sale sting nets 2 businesses

cqo OAKRIDGE - Police have cited two Oakridge businesses for providing alcohol to a minor in a sting operation Noun 1. sting operation - a complicated confidence game planned and executed with great care (especially an operation implemented by undercover agents to apprehend criminals)  that police Chief Louis Gomez said will be continued throughout the year.

"The city of Oakridge has seen a drastic rise in the amount of alcohol-related incidents involving minors," Gomez said. "Part of the rise is due to alcohol being purchased by older family members and due to clerks not asking for identification. These operations are one of the tools being used to help change attitudes about underage drinking."

Plans are being made for public meetings in the community to discuss the issue, Gomez said.

The undercover operation, involving a minor who tried to buy alcohol at seven local businesses, is funded through grants administered by the Lane County Prevention Coalition and the county's Department of Health and Human Services Noun 1.
