Client sues county after relationship

A Eugene woman is suing Lane County, the county mental health division and a former mental health social worker, alleging that the social worker violated state law by engaging in a sexual relationship with her and that the county was negligent for failing to provide proper care for her.

The social worker, Hugh McCauley, was placed on administrative leave after the allegation surfaced last fall, said Al Levine, county mental health division manager. The state Board of Clinical Social Workers disciplined McCauley in March, imposing a six-month license suspension and three years of probation, according to board documents.
