City offices to install new power system

Eugene city offices will be offline today as the city converts to an uninterruptable power supply.

That means no e-mail to or from city staff members and no access to the city's Web site. The Eugene Public Library catalog and airport flight schedules and employment pages will also be offline.

The shutdown begins at 6 a.m. today and will last about seven hours.

Telephone lines at the 911 communications center An agency charged with the responsibility for handling and controlling communications traffic. The center normally includes message center, transmitting, and receiving facilities. Also called COMCEN. See also telecommunications center.  will not be affected, but city of Eugene telephone and voice mail services won't work for a short time beginning at 6 a.m. today and Sunday.

Once installed, the new system will use less power and be more reliable, according a city news release.

Police invite public to open house

SPRINGFIELD - Springfield police will hold an open house for the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

People can meet the officers, tour the department at 344 A St., watch police dog demonstrations and check out the SWAT team van, police motorcycles, bicycles, DARE cars and patrol cars.

Police event to fund Special Olympics Special Olympics

International sports program for people with intellectual disability. It provides year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type summer and winter sports for participants.
 

SPRINGFIELD - Local police officers are working undercover at Springfield's Outback Steakhouse Outback Steakhouse is a casual dining American restaurant chain based in Tampa, Florida with over 900 locations in 23 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.  this weekend, but it isn't part of an investigation.

Instead, officers from Eugene and Springfield and the local FBI office will be raising money for the Special Olympics as part of the annual "Tip-A-Cop" program.

Officers will talk about other fund raisers and accept donations. T-shirts, police memorabilia and raffle tickets to win a 2003 Harley Davidson "Fatboy" motorcycle will be for sale.

Last year's event raised $4,500 for the Special Olympics.
