Aptly named Rosco's after the charismatic restaurateur and his wife Dawn, the restaurant has fast gained a reputation for great food at affordable prices.

Open seven days a week till late, it's the perfect venue for lunch, pre- or post-theatre or to just call in and enjoy great food or a quiet coffee.

It's a little bit different from the norm, with a dark and stylish snug area where guests can sit and chat after their meal, enjoying a relaxed cappuccino cap·puc·ci·no

Dishes include a vast array of modern European food from pizza and pasta to more traditional dishes such as their Tuscan Lamb Stew and slowcooked belly pork with rosemary and sea salt crackling. Ross was persuaded to give up his retirement dream in Monaco to come back to run the vibrant new restaurant in the city. Here he is famed for setting up some of the most wellknown eateries, playing host to Newcastle United stars such as Alan Shearer, famous actors and sporting heroes.

Ross said: "Of course Monaco is fabulous, but there are only so many days that you can bask in the sun.

"For me, it is all about the people - Newcastle is like a village and we are so glad to be home.

"Taking a two-year break out of the business and the city has given me a chance to take a fresh look at the restaurant business and the city. I was shocked to see how the Quayside had changed. "It was dead and empty, and now I feel we have breathed new life into it. I have never been happier. All our friends are back in the restaurant as well as a new and upcoming market.

"As a little boy I spent long happy days catching baby octopus, and here I am again with calamari on my menu."

The opening night was a glittering success with special guests that included Alan Shearer, the glamorous Miss Great Britain Miss Great Britain is a female beauty contest held in London, United Kingdom. It is the oldest of its kind in the country, with the first edition held in 1945.
