"We found that we can improve both the performance and manageability of client/server applications using WinFrame by localizing the database traffic on the LAN and sending only the user interface data across the WAN," says Steve Chadly, People Systems Integration Manager for AT&T Wireless Services.

Built as an authorized extension to Windows NT Server under license from Microsoft, WinFrame is the first integrated, scaleable telecomputing platform to run 16- and 32-bit Windows applications at LAN speed over dial-up, ISDN ISDN

WinFrame enhances the performance of client/server applications outside the LAN by adding the "thin client" technology necessary for high performance over low-bandwidth connections. WinFrame is based on a Citrix-patented protocol, called ICA Ica (ē`kä), city (1993 pop. 108,724), capital of Ica dept., SW Peru, on the Pan-American Highway. It is a commercial center for the cotton, wool, and wine produced in the region. There are several summer resorts nearby. (TM) (Intelligent Console Architecture), which is the industry's first, general-purpose Windows presentation services protocol A protocol that provides graphical interface screen updates to a client station from an application executing in a multiuser computer system. ICA and T.share are examples for the WinFrame and Windows-based Terminal Server systems. See WinFrame, Windows Terminal Server, ICA and T.share. . Similar in concept to the X-Windows protocol for Unix, ICA separates an application's logic from its user interface. This allows the logic and user interface to be executed on separate machines over any kind of connection. As a result, WinFrame provides LAN-speed access to client/server applications over low-bandwidth connections and allows client/server applications to run from existing 286 and 386 PCs.
