Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today announced that the Carbon Cliff-Barstow School District, located in Silvis, Ill., has deployed Citrix(R) MetaFrame XP(TM) Presentation Server to provide faculty, staff and students with access to the applications they need to be successful students and effective teachers and administrators. The Carbon Cliff-Barstow School District #36, a low-income district with approximately 300 kindergarten through eighth grade students in one location, selected MetaFrame XP and WYSE thin-client terminals to enhance student education and improve access to resources for teachers by extending the reach of technology without a large capital investment.

Prior to implementing Citrix access infrastructure software, the Carbon Cliff-Barstow School District was inadequately equipped with computer technology for both learning and teaching purposes. In total, the district had only 20 desktop machines, and these were intended solely for teacher use, leaving students without any access to computers. Strapped for resources, the district turned to Citrix for cost effective help to improve education by providing easy access to any education application, anytime, anywhere, while maximizing the usefulness of existing technology. In addition, the school district purchased 100 WYSE terminals from Citrix reseller CDW Government. The Carbon Cliff-Barstow School District now runs all of its applications including Microsoft(R) Office, its Pop-mail teacher e-mail system and student referral system on its two MetaFrame XP servers.

Now, each classroom in the district is equipped with three MetaFrame based WYSE machines providing students with access to the educational applications they need. For example, students in grades K-8 now have access to documents such as homework templates from the thin client machines in each classroom. In addition, Eagle Ridge, the district's new building, which was completed in December 2002, now has its first computer lab, which is home to another 30 machines, as well as a fully equipped teacher research room and administrative office.

Additionally, the once technologically poor district is now able to provide computer access to members of the community as well. The district is currently hosting evening seminars in its state-of-the-art computer lab on a number of topics ranging from how to build a resume using Microsoft Word to how to conduct an Internet search or set up a personal e-mail account. In the future, the Carbon Cliff-Barstow School District hopes to have its media center open to the public in the evening on a regular basis.
