Citrix Provides the Netherlands' Utrecht Chamber of Commerce with Secure Access to Sensitive Business Information.

Citrix Systems, Inc. The Chamber is using Citrix(R) MetaFrame(R) Presentation Server to centralize applications, and Citrix(R) MetaFrame(R) Password Manager to simplify password management and reduce the IT costs associated with managing its tightly secured network environment.

The Utrecht Chamber of Commerce is one of several regional Chambers that together make up the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce, the organization responsible for managing the Dutch trade register. The trade register is a primary source of information about Dutch businesses, including the activities of companies; their size, location and finances; and trends in economic development. Registration with the trade register is mandatory for most businesses in the Netherlands.

Because of the sensitive nature of this information, maintaining a secure environment is essential. However, as in many organizations, users tended to either forget their passwords or compromise security by writing down passwords and keeping them in highly accessible locations. The Utrecht Chamber's three-person IT department also found themselves spending at least one day a month supporting password issues and additional time providing users with access to applications, taking resources away from vital IT infrastructure management tasks.

Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server and Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager have made a tremendous, positive impact at the Utrecht Chamber of Commerce. Users now access 20 applications through MetaFrame Presentation Server, and new applications and upgrades installed once on the Chamber's server are immediately available to all authorized users wherever they may be.

"Standardizing on Citrix has significantly reduced systems maintenance costs," says Jan Bijker, manager at the Utrecht Chamber of Commerce. "In the past we had to replace almost 40 PCs a year because new applications required higher-spec PCs. With applications residing and easily accessed on our server, this kind of turnover is no longer necessary. Our reduced total cost of ownership has let us recoup our investment in access infrastructure very quickly."

In addition, Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager provides enterprise-class network security for the Chamber's sensitive data, automating the password creation process and ensuring stricter password policies, resulting in fewer forgotten or misused passwords. The improved security as a result of MetaFrame Password Manager is also driving productivity increases. "It is really a win-win for everyone, as employees are no longer irritated by delays caused by lost passwords and our IT department is investing more of its valuable time in managing the rest of our IT infrastructure."
