In an industry where profit margins are slim and the best logistics wins, Con-Way is using Citrix access infrastructure to provide 9,000 employees with improved remote access to customer shipping information. Improved access to information is a core differentiation for Con-Way Transportation, and part of the strategy Con-Way employs to successfully handle more than 54,000 shipments for more than 400,000 customers each day.

Con-Way is using Citrix software to improve employee access to customer shipment information, make billing more flexible, correct invoices with greater speed and accuracy, and cut hardware costs. This improved information management translates to improved customer service. During its original deployment of Citrix access infrastructure in 2000, Con-Way rolled out more than 5,000 inexpensive Wyse(R) Winterm(TM) thin clients instead of full-featured PCs, which lowered its hardware costs by 40 percent.

By extending application and information access to users in all locations, Con-Way employees have access to up-to-date customer information. This improved access allows them to answer customer questions more quickly, and address potential customer problems in real-time.

"For nearly 10 years, Con-Way has differentiated its business by making it easy for employees and customers to access shipping and billing information," said Jackie Barretta, vice president of Information Services See Information Systems.  for Con-Way. "With Citrix access infrastructure we're able to gain greater competitive advantage by making critical information available at any time to any employee in any location. This is our access strategy and it's working well for us and yielding enormous benefits for our customers."

As a result of its focus on improving business performance through information technology, Con-Way was ranked by InformationWeek magazine in 2003 as the most innovative IT user of any shipping and logistics company in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America.
