Citrix iForum 2001

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 2001

New Technology Enhances Citrix's Virtual Workplace Solutions with

Unparalleled Integration with Citrix MetaFrame(R) and NFuse(TM)

Today at Citrix iForum(TM) 2001 (http://www.citrixiforum.com), Citrix Systems Citrix Systems' (NASDAQ: CTXS) is an American technology company, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with subsidiary operations in California and Massachusetts, with additional development centers in Australia, India and the UK. , Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS CTXS Citrix Systems (NASDAQ stock ticker symbol) ), a global leader in application serving and portal software Portal Software was founded in 1985 as Portal Information Network, one of the first ISPs in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was founded by John Little. The company offered its own interface through modem access that featured Internet email.  and services, will demonstrate Citrix(R) Secure Gateway (CSG CSG - constructive solid geometry ), its latest technology, which will enhance Citrix's MetaFrame(R) application server software by providing simple and secure access to applications and content over the Internet. CSG is designed to secure all Citrix Independent Computing Architecture Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) is a proprietary protocol for an application server system, designed by Citrix Systems. The protocol lays down a specification for passing data between server and clients, but is not bound to any one platform.  (ICA Ica (ē`kä), city (1993 pop. 108,724), capital of Ica dept., SW Peru, on the Pan-American Highway. There are several summer resorts nearby. )(R) traffic traveling across the Internet between MetaFrame servers and Secure Socket Layer (SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data. )-enabled ICA Client workstations, making firewall traversal easier, providing heightened security with SSL encryption, simplifying deployment, and enabling tight integration with Citrix NFuse(TM) application portal software.

"Organizations are increasingly turning to the Internet as their preferred network for application deployment due to its lower cost, global reach and resiliency," said John Girard, vice president and director of research at Gartner Group (company) Gartner Group - One of the biggest IT industry research firms.

Address: Connecticut, USA.
. "The majority of users in a typical enterprise simply want frequent, location-independent access to a few key applications, such as email, calendar and selected reports. The most efficient way to provide this access is via a thin client interface on a secure portal that is easy to manage, and presents applications in the manner that users are accustomed to seeing in the office."

Working in conjunction with MetaFrame, Citrix NFuse, and Citrix portal solutions including today's announced Project "South Beach" (see related release), Citrix Secure Gateway will permit an organization to securely and simply access existing applications across the Internet, on demand, from any device.

Key Benefits of CSG will include the following:
-- Strong Encryption -- All data traversing the Internet between the client
workstation and the CSG server will be encrypted, ensuring privacy and
integrity of information flow. CSG will use industry-standard SSL 3.0
encryption technology to secure ICA traffic between the client and CSG. CSG
will provide a single point of entry, and secures access to MetaFrame server
farm(s).

-- Minimal client configuration -- CSG will require no additional software on
the client device apart from the ICA Client released with MetaFrame XP FR1
(6.20), or higher.

-- Cost Effective and Protects Investment -- CSG will be an enterprise-wide
solution that will protect a customer's investment in Citrix MetaFrame
infrastructure and business applications. It will be completely transparent to
both application programs and network devices, eliminating the need for program
modifications or equipment upgrades.

-- Single Authentication -- CSG will tightly integrate with Citrix NFuse to
ensure it only accepts MetaFrame connections that have been previously
authenticated.

-- Simplified Server Management -- CSG will simplify server certificate
management and allow a single point of encryption and access into the MetaFrame
servers by providing a gateway that is separate from the MetaFrame servers.

-- Ease of Firewall Traversal -- ICA connections from the client workstations
to CSG will be secured by SSL 3.0 using a widely used, standard port (443) that
is typically open on Internet firewalls, allowing easy traversal without custom
configuration.

"Citrix Secure Gateway further enables enterprises to access applications quickly, securely and cost-effectively over the Internet," said Larry Ritter rit·ter

"As we move toward a more Web-centric business world, it becomes increasingly important to provide secure access to applications. CSG further enables the virtual workplace and makes it safer to work from anywhere, over any device, at any time."
