Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTXS) today announced that its WinFrame Web client will ship in all retail versions of the Microsoft Internet Explorer Starter Kit. The WinFrame Web client features Windows Application Launching and Embedding (ALE) support, which allows full-function Windows-based applications to be embedded in or linked to HTML Web pages and run from within the Internet Explorer Web browser. Using WinFrame, I/S organizations can quickly, easily and cost-effectively deploy business-critical Windows-based applications via Intranet Web servers and have them immediately available to users of Internet Explorer 3.0.

The WinFrame Web Client, an ActiveX control, is based on Citrix's ICA distributed Windows protocol, which Microsoft has licensed for inclusion in Internet Explorer 3.0, as well as future releases of Windows 95 and the Windows NT operating system. Citrix's ICA protocol allows an applications user interface to execute with minimal resource consumption on client devices, while the application logic executes on ICA-based servers, like Citrix's WinFrame multi-user application server software.

Companies can also develop new 32-bit Windows applications using standard Windows development tools, like Microsoft BackOffice, and distribute them across corporate Intranets using Citrix's ICA ActiveX control.
