Citrix temporarily suspended downloads of its ICA ActiveX control from third-party Web sites last week because of questions raised about the process for securing Internet-connected WinFrame servers. Upon investigation, the company learned that some Web administrators had not configured their WinFrame servers for optimal Internet security. Different security configurations are required when WinFrame servers are outside company firewalls.

Citrix is working to increase awareness among channel members, industry partners and customers on properly securing its WinFrame multi-user applications servers. Citrix worked with Microsoft to publish a technical note on WinFrame Internet configuration and is developing a toolkit that further simplifies WinFrame security configuration.

"Microsoft appreciates the rapid, precautionary measures Citrix took to help make it easier for companies to secure WinFrame servers when connected to the Internet," said Dan Neault, business manager in Microsoft's Desktop and Business Systems Division. "Their proactive and responsible actions exemplify why we have such a long-standing relationship with Citrix."

Citrix Systems, Inc. develops, markets and supports multi-user application server software under license and strategic agreement with Microsoft. The company's flagship product line, WinFrame, enables the high-performance, enterprise-wide deployment of Windows applications without regard to location or type of client hardware platform. Founded in 1989, Citrix is based in Coral Springs, Fla.
