Citizen America introduces a whole new dimension to portable printing; the one-pound ultra-portable PN60i brings tomorrow's technology here today.

SANTA MONICA Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 1996--Citizen America Corp. Wednesday announced the PN60i Portable Printer, representing an entirely new way for laptop and notebook computer A laptop computer that weighs in a range from five to seven pounds. The term originated when laptops were routinely more than 10 pounds, and those that became lighter were placed in a special "notebook" category. In practice, notebook computer and laptop computer are synonymous.  users to take their printing on the road.

Weighing only one pound, the PN60i is the world's first portable printer to incorporate a built-in infrared interface to the IrDA (Infrared Data Association See IrDA.

) standard. Today, most portable computers come standard with this feature.

The PN60i gives users the benefit and convenience of printing without cables, allowing a smooth, seamless connection between computer and printer. To make the PN60i even more complete, Citizen is bundling Puma Technology's TranXit software with the printer, allowing fast and easy printing and data transfers between infrared-enabled notebook PCs, PDAs, Palmtops and printers.

"With the seemingly explosive number of infrared-enabled notebook and subnotebook See subnotebook computer.  PCs hitting the marketplace, we wanted to offer users the most complete portable printing solution possible," said Duane Yamashita, product marketing manager at Citizen America. "The PN60i actually brings tomorrow's technology here today. We are also proud to be working with Puma, a recognized name in IR connectivity software committed to winning solutions."

"Industry analysts estimate a steady rise in infrared-enabled portable computers and printers through the end of the decade, and that bodes well for this technology," said Brad Rowe There are multiple people named Brad Rowe:

"As Puma is an industry leader in infrared connectivity, working with Citizen America was a natural fit for us."

The PN60i is also the smallest, lightest and most versatile laser-quality printer on the market today. It measures a mere 10" (W) x 1.85" (D) x 2" (H) and prints up to two pages per minute with its Thermal Fusion technology. And unlike other portable printers that require special paper, the PN60i prints on plain paper, envelopes, labels and transparency film.

Given the PN60i's nature as an on-the-road pritner, typical output is recommended at around 100 pages per month (monochrome text). But its usability and versatility for the business traveler is greatly enhanced by its color capability -- providing an effective solution for last-minute presentation-quality color transparencies.

The PN60i complements Citizen's award-winning line of portable printers. In 1991, the company introduced the PN48, considered by many as the grandfather of portable printers. Citizen later followed up with its transporatable Notebook Printer II, as well as the ultra-portable PN60 and PN50 models. Joined by the new PN60i, these are the four smallest and lightest laser-quality printers available today.

The suggested retail price of the PN60i is $499. It comes with an international power adapter An external power supply for laptop computers and just about every portable or semi-portable electronic device on the market. Also called an "AC adapter," it contains a rectifier to convert AC current to DC and a transformer to convert voltage from 120 down to 9, 12, 15 or whatever is ; an optional rechargeable battery A rechargeable battery, also known as a storage battery, is a group of two or more secondary cells. These batteries can be restored to full charge by the application of electrical energy.  is also available. It will be available in June through Citizen authorized resellers, and comes with Citizen's standard two-year warranty.
