Citigroup in Delaware Awards $450,000 in Grants To 32 Local Non-Profits on November 13; Lt. Governor of the State of Delaware, John Carney, is Honored Guest.

NEW CASTLE, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2003

Citigroup's banking units -- Citibank Delaware, Citicorp Trust Bank, fsb, and Citicorp Credit Services, Inc. -- will award a total of $450,000 in grants to 32 local non-profits during a reception being held on November 13. (A complete list of grantees is attached.) On hand for the celebration will be Lt. Governor of the State of Delaware, John Carney. The grants will be awarded during a reception beginning at 5:00 PM at Citibank Delaware's office at One Penn's Way in New Castle.

"The non-profit community in Delaware provides many services that would otherwise be unavailable to our residents," said Lt. Governor John C. Carney, Jr. "That wouldn't be possible without the support of our corporate neighbors. Citigroup's generosity will allow these important groups to continue serving the needy, the elderly, the young and many others across our state."

The grants being awarded are made possible by Citigroup and the Citigroup Foundation and target organizations that focus on community development and financial education. Organizations receiving grants include: First State Community Loan Fund, Interfaith Housing, Habitat for Humanity, Nehemiah Gateway CDC, and the Latin American Community Center Development Corporation.

Committed to customer satisfaction and loyalty through people and quality, Citibank Delaware has been in New Castle since the Operations One building opened on October 6, 1982 with 31 employees. Other Citigroup operations in Delaware include Citicorp Trust Bank, fsb, Citicorp Credit Services, Inc., and CitiFinancial, which with Citibank Delaware, employ a total of 2,400 employees. The total amount of grants made in 2003 including those being awarded today by Citigroup's businesses in Delaware is $615,000.

As a federally certified Community Development Financial Institution, and CDFI Fund awardee, the First State Community Loan Fund combines the social responsibility of community development with the financial responsibility of a lending institution. Its mission is to promote and provide creative opportunities for access to capital for businesses, developers of affordable housing, and community organizations throughout Delaware. The First State Community Loan Fund has been a provider of micro loans since 1994, and has issued over 630 loans to primarily female, minority microentrepreneurs. The Fund also offers borrowers a variety of technical assistance and training opportunities focused on ways to grow their businesses.

Interfaith Housing is a statewide housing developer for affordable rental and homeownership housing. The organization provides housing counseling services, management of rental units, housing development, partnerships with other CDCs, and offers an IDA program to qualified individuals. Interfaith develops housing in the Brandywine area and partners with the Latin American Community Center Development Corporation on the renovation of four vacant houses on Lancaster Avenue, and began a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County on a project in North Wilmington.

Since 1999, Citigroup and Habitat for Humanity have engaged in a partnership through which grant funds and employee volunteer efforts are helping deserving families around the world become homeowners. In Delaware, the local banks supported the work of the local chapter in New Castle to build one home per year, financing half the cost per year of a home in Middletown, Wilmington and Minquadale.

The Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation is a faith-based community-focused grassroots organization that provides programs for job skills development and job placement, financial education and matched savings programs. It also sponsors the annual faith based business expo and the statewide Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign.

The Latin American Community Center Development Corporation is building a 24-unit senior citizen affordable housing apartment building (due to be completed in the Fall of 2005) at Fifth and Jackson Streets in Wilmington, as well as buying, renovating and selling homes in the Hilltop area for homeownership. They provide housing development and asset building programs to the Westside of Wilmington, which is commonly known as the Hilltop community. Citigroup also provided a grant for a summer intern to market the homeownership opportunities in the neighborhood.
