Background

Citigroup employees volunteer year-round in the communities in which they live and work. "Global Community Day" is a new initiative to have Citigroup's employees, along with their families and friends, come together as a global team on a single day each year. Volunteer teams will be working on hundreds of local projects addressing specific community needs, including literacy, housing, environmental protection, nutrition, health care and disaster relief. Citigroup expects more than 35,000 volunteers participating in over 800 projects in 400 cities across 100 countries. Volunteers will be working on 50 projects in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, including:

Southern Connecticut

Keep Stamford Beautiful (Kosciuszko Park (Elmcroft Road), Stamford, CT 06901): Volunteers will refurbish Kosciuszko Park, a beautiful Stamford, CT, waterfront park Waterfront Park can refer to any of a number of parks on a river or other body of water, including:
  • Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
  • Louisville Waterfront Park along the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in 1999.

The Arc of Somerset (Warren Technology Center, 216 Route 206, Hillsborough, NJ 08844): Citigroup volunteers will repair a warehouse for The Arc of Somerset , which provides direct care services and advocacy for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities developmental disabilities (DD),

Project Sunshine (High School of Economics and Finance The High School of Economics and Finance (HSEF) is a public high school in Manhattan, New York City. Welcome Home Kits for Homeless Children (High School of Economics and Finance, 100 Trinity Place, New York, NY 10006) Volunteers will make welcome home creativity kits to be given to children who are moving into a homeless shelter Homeless shelters are temporary residences for homeless people. Usually located in urban neighborhoods, they are similar to emergency shelters. The primary difference is that homeless shelters are usually open to anyone, without regard to the reason for need. . Jewish Home & Hospital (20 West 106th Street, New York, NY 10025) Volunteers will be socializing with residents and recreating the dance halls of their youth The Jewish Home and Hospital of New York, founded in 1848, is the nation's oldest and largest Jewish nursing home and one of the premier non-profit geriatric and rehabilitation institutions in the country. City Year at PS 30 Hernandez - Hughes Learning Academy (144-176 128th Street, New York, NY 10035) In partnership with City Year, Citigroup's volunteers will be painting murals; designing outdoor playground games; and running activities to promote community service. Washington Heights Academy at PS 178M & PS 152M (12-18 Ellwood Street, New York, NY 10040). Volunteers will paint both the inside and outside of the school, including a variety of theme appropriate murals in classrooms.
