-- Over 700 Citigroup employees will join with millions of Americans across the country on Saturday, October 23, doing volunteer projects to help make life better in local communities on the 14th annual "Make a Difference Day."

"Make a Difference Day" is the largest community service effort in the nation, rallying corporations, government leaders, charitable organizations and everyday Americans into action on one day. Last year on "Make A Difference Day," a record 3 million volunteers participated and an estimated 30 million people in need benefited.

This year, Citigroup, one of 10 National "Make A Difference Day Award" winners in 2003, will be involved in "Make a Difference Day" projects related to financial education. This aligns with Citigroup and the Citigroup Foundation's announcement made earlier this year committing $200 million over the next ten years to support programs that provide access to financial education for consumers, business entrepreneurs, institutions, and nonprofits.

"Our participation in 'Make a Difference Day' is a natural for us since our employees log thousands of hours each year volunteering in their communities," said Marge Magner, Chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "I'm so proud of our employees, not only for their involvement in company-sponsored projects but for the many wonderful things they do as individual volunteers. Through their efforts, we strengthen our commitment to help make the communities where we live and work better places."

As part of the "Make a Difference Day" efforts, more than 200 Citigroup employees participated in the 2nd annual Get Smart About Credit Day, sponsored by the American Bankers Association The American Bankers Association (ABA) is comprised of banks and other financial institutions. It seeks to promote the strength and profitability of the banking industry by Lobbying federal and state governments, building industry consensus on key issues, and providing products and  Education Foundation (ABAEF). On Thursday, October 21st, over 5,000 teens and young adults across America learned the dos and don'ts of credit from Citigroup employees in over 45 cities. Citigroup volunteers joined thousands of other bank employees by visiting colleges, high schools, freshman orientations, youth groups, and continuing education continuing education: see adult education.
