) has provided the National Equity Fund, Inc. (NEF n. 1. The nave of a church. ) with a $50 million revolving warehouse facility, which will ultimately help expand the supply of affordable housing across the U.S. NEF, the country's leading non-profit syndicator of low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC's), will use this facility to acquire and warehouse interests in projects with LIHTC's, for ultimate placement in NEF-managed funds

Since NEF's business is national, this facility will help Citibank, the banking subsidiary of Citigroup, meet its Community Reinvestment Act Community Reinvestment Act (CRA)

Enacted by Congress in 1977, the CRA encourages banks to help meet the credit needs of their communities for housing and other purposes, particularly in neighborhoods with low or moderate incomes, while maintaining safe and sound operations.
 (CRA See Community Reinvestment Act. ) requirements across numerous geographic markets. To the extent that NEF does business outside of Citibank's CRA assessment area, the credit will be assigned to one of Citigroup's special purpose banks.

Since that time, NEF has invested more than $2.5 billion in private capital to build more than 46,000 homes in 107 cities around the country. NEF fills a critical market niche by working exclusively with non-profit developers. Through its relationship with the local offices of the Local Initiatives Services Corporation (LISC,) NEF can offer CDCs technical assistance to help them develop mission-driven, affordable housing.
