The national average private-pay cost of a private nursing home room is $181.24 per day, according to according to

MetLife mined the data specifically for cities with the least expensive private-pay nursing home rooms, which happen to be in the West and South:

 3. Kansas City, Missouri, $120.83
 4. Birmingham, Alabama, $123.36
 5. Jackson, Mississippi, $124.01
 6. Wichita, Kansas, $127.43
 7. Dell Rapids, South Dakota, $127.60
 8. New Orleans, $128.65
 9. St. Louis, $133.21
10. Charleston, South Carolina, $135.50
