Citicorp announces Global Technology appointment.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 1996--Citicorp announced today that it has appointed Stanley M. Welland as Director of Global Technology Infrastructure, reporting to Colin Crook, Senior Technology Officer. He will be responsible for integrating and standardizing Citicorp's growing communications and computing infrastructures, as part of the bank's distributed computing (1) The use of multiple computers networked throughout a wide geographical area, or the world via the Internet, in order to solve a single problem. See grid computing.

(2) The use of multiple computers in an enterprise rather than one centralized system.
 strategy.

Mr. Welland was previously at General Electric, where he created and managed the company's extensive global network, supporting such diverse businesses as GE Capital, Information Services See Information Systems. , and NBC NBC
 in full National Broadcasting Co.

Major U.S. commercial broadcasting company. It was formed in 1926 by RCA Corp., General Electric Co. (GE), and Westinghouse and was the first U.S. company to operate a broadcast network.
. Prior to this, Mr. Welland held earlier positions at Merrill Lynch Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MER TYO: 8675 ), through its subsidiaries and affiliates, provides capital markets services, investment banking and advisory services, wealth management, asset management, insurance, banking and related products and services on a global basis.  and Exxon Corporation.

Mr. Welland has a background in finance and technology, and holds a Doctorate in Engineering Science from Newark College of Engineering, in addition to a graduate degree in business administration from Rutgers University Rutgers University, main campus at New Brunswick, N.J.; land-grant and state supported; coeducational except for Douglass College; chartered 1766 as Queen's College, opened 1771.
