Citibank in Singapore Selects Tandem System for Telephone Banking.

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 1996--Tandem(R) Computers Incorporated announced that Citibank, N.A., has chosen Tandem's 24-hour telephone banking solution, which provides secured banking services with convenient access for its customers.

The computer telephone integration See CTI. (CTI) solution, allows customers to call the bank, punch in their PIN number, and then listen to an interactive voice response that greets them by name and even remembers the details of their last transaction. The solution runs on Tandem's Himalaya(R) server platform.

Raymond Lim, Citibank's Citibanking business manager, said, "Tandem's CTI solution allows us to increase our customers' comfort level, and gives us a more sophisticated and flexible banking platform to meet our future needs."

Citibank wanted a solution that would not drastically change its existing infrastructure. The Tandem team, with Alliance Partners Applied Communications Inc. (ACI) and Alta Vista Systems (AVS), produced a plan that would make minimal changes, and yet allow Citibank to provide its customers with superior service.

With Tandem's CTI solution, Citibank's customers will have convenient access to secure banking services by telephone. Singaporean customers need only key in their customer identification number (CIN) or NRIC NRIC - National Resource Information Centre (Australia)

NRIC - Network Reliability Interoperability Council (Internet)
numbers, and they can be identified instantly as a personal banking customer or a high-networth customer. In this way, Citibank can route the customer to the appropriate bank officers who can attend to the customer's needs.

If customers are processing transactions by telephone and they encounter a problem, they can call the bank for help. With the CTI solution, the bank officer can identify the problem and provide immediate assistance.

The benefits that Citibank will enjoy include a seamless transition between self-service banking functions and officer-assisted transactions for both the bank and its customers; data and transaction protection during power failures; and the ability to handle higher transaction volume with little impact on service level.

Tandem will provide Citibank with on-going support. "With Tandem, we are assured of a superior level of support and service. Tandem's wealth of experience and expertise in the banking industry, and its deep understanding of front-end banking systems made Tandem the first choice when we were looking for a system," Lim said.
