Citi Habitats, Manhattan Mortgage plan to help homeless children.


Citi Habitats, Inc. announced its partnership with Volunteers of America Volunteers of America, national nondenominational organization providing a wide variety of human services as part of a Christian ministry of service. Founded (1896) by Ballington and Maud Booth (see Booth, family) after their withdrawal from the Salvation Army, the , one of the city's largest private providers of homeless services, for Operation Backpack. The week-long event, to take place August 18-22, calls upon the public to bring new or gently used backpacks to any Citi Habitats branch location. The backpacks will then be filled with donated school supplies and distributed to homeless children in the New York City New York City: see New York, city.

Helping in the gathering and distribution of these backpacks is the least we could do to give back to the community," said Andrew Heiberger, president and chief executive officer of Citi Habitats.
