Citi Finalizes Acquisition of Grupo Cuscatlan in Central America.


Transaction Expands Regional Distribution Network and Adds More Than One Million Clients

 Internacional S.A., the subsidiaries' holding company. Under the terms of their agreement announced on December 13, 2006, Citi acquired Grupo Cuscatlan's banking operations, some of its insurance operations, and other financial activities for $1.51 billion in cash and Citigroup stock.

Grupo Cuscatlan is one of the leading financial groups in Central America Central America, narrow, southernmost region (c.202,200 sq mi/523,698 sq km) of North America, linked to South America at Colombia. It separates the Caribbean from the Pacific.  with operations in El Salvador El Salvador (ĕl sälväthōr`), officially Republic of El Salvador, republic (2005 est. pop. 6,705,000), 8,260 sq mi (21,393 sq km), Central America. , Guatemala, Costa Rica Costa Rica (kŏs`tə rē`kə), officially Republic of Costa Rica, republic (2005 est. pop. 4,016,000), 19,575 sq mi (50,700 sq km), Central America. , Honduras and Panama. It serves more than 45,000 corporate banking customers and 1.2 million consumer banking customers through a distribution network of 202 branches and 263 ATM's throughout the region. It has approximately 5,000 employees.

Citi also announced that Mauricio Samayoa will remain CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Grupo Cuscatlan, reporting jointly to Fernando Quiroz Fernando Quiroz is a retired Argentine football midfielder. He was born on June 19 1968, in Buenos Aires, he is currently the manager of San Martín de San Juan Playing career
Quiroz started his career with Buenos Aires based Club Atlético Huracán in 1990.

Grupo Cuscatlan is highly complementary to Citi's operations in Central America, including the recently acquired Grupo Uno, the largest credit card issuer in the region. Taken together, these transactions significantly strengthen Citi's distribution capabilities and product offerings to serve retail and corporate clients in Central America.
