Citadel Gold Mines Inc. -- Wawa projects update.WESTON, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1996-- Citadel Gold Mines Inc. finished drilling two holes on its Surluga Gold Mine property near Wawa Ontario in February. Citadel is pleased to announce that the holes discovered a previously unknown zoned carbonatite Carbonatites (IPA: /kɑɹˈbɒnətaɪt/) are intrusive or extrusive igneous rocks defined by mineralogy that comprises more than 20 volume-% carbonate minerals. intrusive, under a small pond called Deep Lake. Both holes tested a magnetic anomaly near sites where diamond indicator minerals were found. Hole 96-2, drilled across the short diameter of the elliptical el·lip·tic or el·lip·ti·cal adj. 1. Of, relating to, or having the shape of an ellipse. 2. Containing or characterized by ellipsis. 3. a. anomaly, encountered 162 metres of carbonatite with lamprophyric marginal phases. It indicates a vertical plug with a true minimum diameter of 91 m. Preliminary mineralogical examination indicates the carbonatite has an unusual and very high content of opaque oxide minerals and magnesian mag·ne·sia n. Magnesium oxide. [Middle English, mineral ingredient of the philosophers' stone, from Medieval Latin magn talc. The lamprophyric margins do not contain eclogitic inclusions, but the possibility that they are diamondiferous lamproites has not been eliminated. Kimberlites and carbonatites are spatially related rocks. Although different from kimberlites, carbonatites are exotic orebearing rocks, for a wide variety of commodities, including niobium niobium (nīō`bēəm), metallic chemical element; symbol Nb; at. no. 41; at. wt. 92.9064; m.p. about 2,468°C;; b.p. 4,742°C;; sp. gr. 8.57 at 20°C;; valence +2, +3, +4, or +5. , iron, titanium, copper, phosphate, rare earths, sodium carbonate, fluorocarbonates, vermiculite ver·mic·u·lite n. Any of a group of micaceous hydrated silicate minerals related to the chlorites and used in heat-expanded form as insulation and as a planting medium. , barite barite (bâr`īt), barytes (bərī`tēz) [New Lat., from barium], or heavy spar, a white, yellow, blue, red, or colorless mineral. and talc. The Firesand Carbonatite, near Deep Lake has been prospected extensively for niobium. Citadel is using mineralogical and chemical analysis to evaluate this new discovery. Other magnetic anomalies located on Citadel's claims remain to be tested as kimberlitic sources for the alluvial diamonds and diamond indicators found near Wawa over the past three years.
