CitX Through Baltimore Technologies to Build Secure Certification Authority, CA, for Management and Authentication of Digital Identities.

QUAKERTOWN, Pa.--(BW HealthWire)--Sept. 27, 1999--

CitX Will Securely Create, Manage and Authenticate Digital IDs

in Healthcare and Internet e-Commerce

CitX Corporation, through Baltimore Technologies Baltimore Technologies was an internet security firm founded in 1976 by Michael Purser. It was acquired in 1996 by a team financed by Dermot Desmond and led by Fran Rooney, who became CEO.  (London:BLM BLM n abbr (US) (= Bureau of Land Management) → les domaines ), a global leader in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) A framework for creating a secure method for exchanging information based on public key cryptography. The foundation of a PKI is the certificate authority (CA), which issues digital certificates that authenticate the identity of )-based cryptographic solutions, today announces it will build and operate a Certification Authority See CA.  (CA) facility to securely create, manage and authenticate digital signatures and identity credentials on behalf of individuals and entities involved in Healthcare and Internet e-Commerce.

As a Certification Authority, CitX will provide a method via the Internet for people and businesses to automatically certify the credentials of an entity with which they wish to transact business.

Services offered by the Certification Authority facility will become an integral component of IntraPay, CitX's e-Commerce platform, providing clients with advanced bank-level security for their financial transactions.

CitX will complete construction of a military-grade secure bunker at its Quakertown, PA location to house its new Certification Authority facility, planned to be in operation by December of this year.

"Digital signatures and identity credentials are the computerized equivalent of a person's own signature and passport, which in this case are maintained, managed and authenticated by the Certification Authority as a 'trusted third party,'" explains Bernie Roemmele, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of CitX Corporation.

The function of a Certification Authority is similar to that of a passport office passport office passport nbureau m de délivrance des passeports

in that the authority certifies that the person is who he or she claims to be, through a set of authentication policies. Any country that trusts the authority and policies of the passport office will also trust the information in a passport, which authenticates the identity of an individual.

Similarly, the Certification Authority is a trusted entity guided by a set of policies with the primary responsibility of certifying the authenticity of its users.

"The need for digital authentication of user identities and credentials is fundamental to the success of valid Internet-based business-to-business and business-to-consumer e-Commerce transactions or secure electronic information exchange," notes Roemmele. "CitX will integrate its proprietary credentials certification and secure transaction exchange technology into its new Certification Authority architecture. This will allow authorized individuals to access authenticated credentials maintained by the new Certification Authority while guarding against identity fraud and fully protecting the privacy of an individual's identity credentials."

The new Certification Authority will be deployed over a distributed fault-tolerant server architecture consisting of a distributed switched network topology See topology. , intelligent hardware/software firewall and redundant UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
 and Microsoft NT servers.

CitX will use Baltimore's UniCERT PKI system cryptographic toolkit, Oracle's integrated enterprise development tools Oracle8i, and CitX's own SynerX e-Solution deployment tools to rapidly develop and customize integrated secure e-Commerce solutions to meet the security and privacy needs of its clients.
