"Public safety is among the highest priorities for our institution, and we feel very much at ease with Cistera's application services especially because Cistera has the only IP solution that can provide multimodal communications," said Chris Burge, IT consultant with Georgia Perimeter College. "Cistera's multimodal capability is a lifeline to each building and it's the best way to relay important information quickly to a large population over a wide geography. Our campuses are safer with this technology."

Cistera's EAN also can link campus public safety operations with civilian authorities to create a seamless framework for inter-agency communications - including two-way radio interoperability - during a crisis. This helps organize and execute a more thorough response to events in an expedited manner.

"Recent events highlight the importance of having reliable communications with faculty, students and staff during an emergency," said Greg Royal, Cistera's founder and chief technology officer. "Working with Georgia Perimeter has been very fulfilling because they quickly recognized how IP application services can improve emergency communications, and they took a proactive approach to developing a communications strategy and implementation plan. We are very pleased that Cistera's EAN and QAC solutions have helped make Georgia Perimeter's vision a reality."

Georgia Perimeter College has more than 22,000 students and about 3,000 faculty and staff on campuses throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area The Atlanta metropolitan area, commonly referred to as metro Atlanta in Georgia, is the ninth-largest metropolitan area in the United States and consists of up to 28 counties in Georgia. . The college looked to Cistera Networks, a Cisco Technology Developer Partner, to improve public safety communication and maximize IP communication capabilities at its four main campuses in Clarkston, Decatur, Dunwoody and Newton, with more than 36 buildings total. The college system's Cisco IP Telephony environment includes nearly 2,000 IP handsets including 300 phones in classrooms.

Cistera's EAN and QAC solutions for Georgia Perimeter include:

* Cistera RapidBroadcast[TM], an enterprise-level application engine that utilizes desktop phones for mass communication in a multimodal capacity to virtually every communication device. This facilitates a more coordinated effort among the school's administrators and public safety providers to greatly improve communication during emergencies.

* CallCenterRecord[TM] provides call recording and playback with high-quality, continuous capabilities for public safety purposes. This provides peace of mind from a liability standpoint by archiving all inbound calls for easy reference. It also allows for each call to be used as a training exercise to identify areas for improvement.

* Cistera QuickRecord[TM] offers call recording and playback on an ad hoc For this purpose. Meaning "to this" in Latin, it refers to dealing with special situations as they occur rather than functions that are repeated on a regular basis. See ad hoc query and ad hoc mode.  basis. Calls can be recorded at anytime during a conversation and span from the beginning to the end.

By utilizing a unique multimodal approach, Cistera's EAN, with RapidBroadcast, will allow Georgia Perimeter to deliver information to virtually any device that receives communication. This approach also could include simultaneously broadcasting the message over campus-wide loud or overhead speakers. Regardless of location or activity, students, faculty, staff and guests could be reached with information regarding something as significant and complex as a life-threatening emergency, or as simple as a weather-related school closing.

The QAC solution provides documentation and archiving capabilities that can record every communication received so that it can be referenced for training and liability purposes. Georgia Perimeter uses CallCenterRecord to chronicle inbound communication at its main public safety dispatch center, and QuickRecord at public safety offices on each campus.

Cistera's application services are fully scalable enterprise solutions that can adapt to organizations with hundreds to tens of thousands of IP units. They can be integrated in a matter of days with complete user training in less than a half hour. To further adapt to needs of specific organizations, the services can be delivered on either a "hosted" basis, which can be obtained as a monthly service to reduce major capital expenditures, or via a traditional CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Communications equipment that resides on the customer's premises.
