) today announced a definitive agreement to purchase select intellectual property and assets of Cybertrust of Herndon, Va. Cisco will purchase assets, intellectual property, customer contracts and other components of Cybertrust's security intelligence information service, known as Intellishield Alert Manager.

The ability to research, understand and advise customers on all types of threats and vulnerabilities is core to Cisco's Self-Defending Network strategy. Intellishield Alert Manager will become part of the Cisco MySDN security intelligence Web site. Internet security is the process of protecting data and privacy of devices connected to internet from information robbery, hacking, malware infection and unwanted software.
 issues and will join Cisco's portfolio of Security Lifecycle Services that assist customers in making their networks secure.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cisco will pay $14 million in cash in exchange for the technology, customer contracts and other components of Cybertrust's Intellishield Alert Manager. The purchase is subject to various standard closing conditions and is expected to close in the second quarter, ending January 28, 2006, of Cisco's fiscal year 2006.

Intellishield Alert Manager is a web-based security intelligence service, providing daily information to customers about information security threats and IT product vulnerabilities that affect the entire corporate information technology domain. Upon close of the transaction, the Intellishield Alert Manager team will become part of Cisco's Customer Advocacy organization, joining the Technical Support Services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  group led by senior vice president Joe Pinto, and the Intellishield Alert Manager service will be sold as a Cisco Brand Resale offering primarily available through Cisco partners with a security specialization.
