Dubai Internet City will offer managed voice, video and data services powered by the Cisco 12400 series Internet Routers, Cisco Resilient Packet Ring (RPR (Resilient Packet Ring) A packet-based protocol that provides fault tolerance and statistical multiplexing for the metropolitan and national SONET and Ethernet networks of the carriers. ) technology, Dynamic Packet Transport Dynamic packet transport (DPT) is a Cisco transport protocol (part of the Resilient Packet Ring/802.17 protocol group) designed for use in optical fiber ring networks. In overview, it is quite similar to POS and DTM.  (DPT) and the Cisco 10700 Series Internet Router. Cisco Catalyst 6500 and 4000 series switches provide in-building Ethernet connectivity for the reliable Ethernet service offering.

"Basing our infrastructure around delivering something as simple, scalable and reliable as Ethernet connectivity makes it easy for our customers to connect to the Internet and also enables us to roll out additional services," commented Ahmed Bin Byat, director general of Dubai Internet City. It is used for a myriad of purposes including updating routers, announcing and discovering services and streaming media. IP multicast saves network bandwidth, because packets are transmitted as one stream over the backbone and only  capabilities that form the basis of successful broadcast video delivery in the access network.
