, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced that it has been selected by Powercomm to provide networking equipment to build the company's core Internet Protocol (IP) network. Once deployed, Powercomm will be able to offer new IP based services to its customers including Virtual Private Networking and Metropolitan Access Networking.

Powercomm's IP core network will utilize Cisco 12416 routers with Gigabit Ethernet line-cards to transport IP traffic originating from its existing cable access network and metropolitan Ethernet access network. Based on Cisco's uBR7200 Series Universal Broadband Router, Powercomm's existing cable access network currently offers high-speed Internet access service to over a million households.

The Cisco 12000 series offers industry leading scalability, high performance, and optimized priority packet delivery through an innovative distributed architecture design that enables service providers to accelerate the evolution of the Internet through delivery of profitable, next generation services.

The Cisco 12416 Internet router is a 10 Gigabit, 16-slot chassis member of the Cisco 12000 series that provides a total switching capacity of 320 Gigabits per second (Gbps), with 20 Gbps (10 Gbps full duplex) capacity per slot.

With its 16-slot chassis and extensive portfolio of line cards including the new Cisco 1-port OC-192c/STM-64c and Cisco 4-port OC-48c/STM-16c POS (1) See point of sale and packet over SONET.
