), the leader in networking for the Internet, today announced extensions to its CiscoWorks Blue family with the availability of CiscoWorks Blue SNA (Systems Network Architecture) IBM's mainframe network standards introduced in 1974. Originally a centralized architecture with a host computer controlling many terminals, enhancements, such as APPN and APPC (LU 6.  View 3.0, CiscoWorks Blue Maps 3.0, and Internetwork Status Monitor for System/390 Version 2.0. These web-based applications provide customers with easy-to-use tools for effective management of Systems Network Architecture (SNA)/IP networks.

As customers migrate from SNA-centric to more IP-centric networks, sophisticated troubleshooting and monitoring tools are required to address the associated complexities with ease. Network administrators managing a multiprotocol environment need to ensure optimal network performance in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Enhancements to the CiscoWorks Blue family of network management applications address the complex management needs of a mixed SNA/IP network. CiscoWorks Blue SNA View 3.0 provides SNA/IP network troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities via network and mainframe correlation. Now available on the Windows NT platform, customers with small and medium network environments can utilize this functionality with ease. CiscoWorks Blue SNA View 3.0 collects physical unit (PU) and logical unit (LU) data and correlates this to information gathered from Cisco devices and Cisco TN3270 Servers. This enables consolidated network operation management for efficient network monitoring while ensuring high network availability.

CiscoWorks Blue Maps 3.0 provides dynamic views or maps of both SNA and IP networks. This new version allows users to scale to manage larger SNA/IP network environments through improved host discovery and status propagation. CiscoWorks Blue Maps 3.0 collects and monitors advanced Management Information Base (MIB (1) (Management Information Base) The hierarchical database used by the simple network management protocol (SNMP) to describe the particular device being monitored. MIB objects are identified using ASN.1 syntax. See SNMP, RMON, OID and ASN.1. ) information in Cisco devices in addition to monitoring DLSw, APPN (Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking) Extensions to IBM's SNA communications that provide the necessary flexibility to enable direct communication between users anywhere on the network. , and RSRB RSRB Remote Source-Route Bridging  network traffic. By combining relevant TCP/IP TCP/IP

and SNA data for various administrative tasks, CiscoWorks Blue Maps 3.0 allows users to confidently manage a growing multiprotocol network while ensuring SNA service levels are met. It works in conjunction with leading SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  network management platforms, providing a single, consolidated view of the integrated network.

"The CiscoWorks Blue family of network management applications is an excellent way to manage a combined SNA/TCP-IP network in a Cisco environment" said Bruce Armstrong, Network Management Product Manager, Tivoli Systems Inc. "CiscoWorks Blue SNA View 3.0 enables faster network failure isolation and the unique ability to fuse mainframe and Cisco device data in a single place."

CiscoWorks Blue Internetwork Status Monitor for System/390 Version 2.0 provides management and visibility of Cisco devices from the mainframe. With this version, users have new capabilities such as a new web interface and SNMP support for better Cisco device monitoring and management from the mainframe. It integrates with Tivoli(R) NetView(R) for OS/390 to deliver router management information. This eliminates the need for additional training and investments in additional router management software.

The CiscoWorks Blue family of network management applications integrate with the CiscoWorks2000 family of network management products providing extended network management capabilities and are web-based for convenient network monitoring and management.

"Our customers require network management tools that address the unique and complex needs of a combined SNA/IP network," said Sudhir Nath, product manager at Cisco Systems. "The enhancements made to the CiscoWorks Blue family of network management applications provide customers with a set of tools that utilize emerging web-based management capabilities while ensuring optimal network performance."
