Long-term disability A software flaw in Cisco voice over IP phones has been reported by the UK's National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre that could allow hackers to crash them. A domain name system protocol vulnerability has been seen to affect the client software in the phones and Cisco is currently issuing patches to solve the problem. According to the NISCC NISCC National Infrastructure Security Co-Ordination Centre (UK) remote hackers could insert specially crafted DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. For example, when a Web site address is given to the DNS either by typing a URL in a browser or behind the packets containing invalid information into the compressed section of messages, causing the IP phones to malfunction or crash. Affected products include Cisco's 7902/7905/7912 IP phones, the Cisco analogue telephone adaptor 186/188, and Cisco Unity Express and Cisco application and content networking system devices.
