Cisco Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CSCO), today announced an expansion to its broadband aggregation portfolio with the addition of new broadband capabilities and features to the Cisco 7200, 7400 and 10000 Series Internet Routers. Service providers are now able to utilize these Cisco edge routers for both leased-line and broadband aggregation. The new services introduced will help service providers to take advantage of new market opportunities.

These portfolio enhancements offer service providers a wide range of broadband aggregation options in terms of performance, density, form factor, services and price. Cisco is now able to deliver to service providers the industry's broadest portfolio of reliable, scalable, feature-rich platforms. From the one-rack-unit high 7400, designed for pay-as-you-grow deployments, to the highly available 10000, now offering both private line and broadband capabilities, Cisco's edge routers are built from the ground up to support next-generation subscriber services at the edge in a cost-effective manner.

With the addition of broadband capabilities, the Cisco 10000 Series is the industry's first integrated edge router with tested availability beyond 99.999% or "five-nines." The Cisco 10000 now delivers highly available, line-rate performance without compromise for service providers deploying IP services to broadband, leased-line, ATM and Frame Relay customers.

Cisco's 6400, 7200, 7400 and 10000 Series Internet routers now enable service providers to deliver applications that enhance the online experience for their customers. These personalized on-line services not only increase customer satisfaction and loyalty, but can also drive additional service provider revenues through additional demand for premium services.

Examples of these applications include Dynamic Bandwidth Selection (DBS), which allows end users to independently "turbo charge" their broadband connections instantaneously, increasing throughput on demand for high-bandwidth applications like video on demand (VoD). Another feature offered with the Cisco portfolio is Service Selection Gateway (SSG), which enables carriers to provide customized and branded portals for end users, thus delivering a richer, more personalized online experience, while promoting access to services, such as movies or games. And in response to the growing need for network security, Cisco provides Per User Network-based Firewall capabilities, which gives the family or business end user the ability to easily select different levels of firewall protection for individual family members or employees. The end user can now create sub-accounts for family members, subscribe to age-appropriate services, provide allowance for gaming services and set policies on hours of use and time of day.

Cisco's broadband aggregation portfolio utilizes Cisco's Parallel Express Forwarding (PXF(TM)) network processor. With its patented architecture, the PXF is able to provide consistent high performance for thousands of subscribers at the broadband edge, even with multiple, simultaneous IP services enabled. This high level of reliable performance is necessary for service providers that must meet the demands of enterprise customers. In addition, the PXF's flexible design protects service providers' hardware investments and enables them to grow and change their available services as their customers' needs change. Service providers can add new features and services to the edge router by simply downloading the required software.
