Cisco Chooses Azimuth Test Solution to Automate CCX Certification; Azimuth W-Series Streamlines Certification Process for Wi-Fi Silicon and System Vendors.

ACTON, Mass. -- Azimuth azimuth (ăz`əməth), in astronomy, one coordinate in the altazimuth coordinate system. It is the angular distance of a body measured westward along the celestial horizon from the observer's south point.  Systems Inc., the leading provider of Wi-Fi(R) engineering test equipment, today announced that Cisco Systems “Cisco” redirects here. For other uses, see Cisco (disambiguation).
Cisco System,Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO, HKSE: 4333 ) is an American multinational corporation with 54,000 employees and annual revenue of US $28.48 billion as of 2006.
, Inc.(R) is using the Azimuth W-Series test platform for the Cisco Compatible Extensions See CCX.  (CCX (Cisco Compatible EXtensions) Specifications for makers of 802.11 wireless LAN chips for ensuring compliance with Cisco's proprietary wireless LAN protocols. For example, Cisco's LEAP and EAP-FAST are part of CCX. See EAP. ) certification program. CCX certification ensures the compatibility of wireless local area network (WLAN See wireless LAN.

Cisco will put the Azimuth W-Series platform, with an automated CCX test script The instructions in a test program. It defines the actions and pass/fail criteria. For example, if the action is "to enter a valid account number," the expected result is that the data are accepted. Entering an invalid number should yield a particular error message. See test case.  to streamline the testing process, into the designated CCX testing center at Keylabs to perform CCX validation testing. This will help silicon and system manufacturers achieve CCX certification more quickly than previously possible.

"CCX certification is a critical but demanding process for silicon suppliers and system manufacturers to ensure the interoperability of client devices with Cisco's secure Wi-Fi infrastructure," said Ray Cronin, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Azimuth. "Azimuth's W-Series provides Cisco and its licensees with a standardized test A standardized test is a test administered and scored in a standard manner. The tests are designed in such a way that the "questions, conditions for administering, scoring procedures, and interpretations are consistent" [1]  platform that automates and simplifies the CCX certification process."

To ensure compatibility with Cisco infrastructure, the CCX program uses extensive testing of embedded and stand-alone Wi-Fi modules in notebook and desktop PCs, PDAs, mobile handsets, and other products. The certification process includes complex functional testing, stringent performance testing, verification of interoperability with Cisco security protocols, and adherence to advanced wireless capabilities like radio resource management. The Azimuth W-Series automates the complete CCX test procedure - including setup, configuration, control and analysis - to significantly reduce testing time and costs. All aspects of CCX testing are coordinated by Azimuth's DIRECTOR(TM) test executive software, and the pass/fail result of each sub-test is reported in hours, rather than days.

"Licensing our CCX technology to the leading Wi-Fi silicon and equipment manufacturers facilitates widespread adoption of products that offer enterprise-class security, mobility and ease-of-use," said Alan S. Cohen cohen

, senior director, product management, Cisco Wireless Networking Business Unit. "We rely on testing partners like Azimuth to improve the certification process, enabling our CCX partners to get products to market more quickly."

The Azimuth W-Series is the industry's first standardized test platform for system level testing of 802.11 wireless access points, clients and application-specific devices such as Voice Over Wi-Fi Transmitting IP-based telephone calls (VoIP) over a Wi-Fi network. Voice over Wi-Fi (Vo-Fi) provides enhancements to the 802.11 standards for handling the real time environment of voice calls. With a single mode Vo-Fi phone, users can make calls only within a Wi-Fi hotspot.  handsets. In use by more than 60 of the world's leading Wi-Fi vendors and test labs, the Azimuth W-Series provides the flexibility and programmability needed to thoroughly evaluate wireless systems under varying mobility and traffic conditions. In doing so, the system produces test results with unprecedented levels of repeatability, scalability, and automation. The system offers an ideal environment to perform advanced wireless functionality, performance and certification testing.
