Cisco Certified Professionals See Salaries Plummet; TCPmag.com Releases Salary Survey Report on Cisco Certification.

Employers hiring top Cisco(R)-certified IT professionals have tightened their purse strings purse strings or purseĀ·strings

 a salary survey published by 101communications' TCPmag.com. Cisco Certified Internetwork Engineers (CCIE See Cisco certification. (TM)) on average experienced a 21 percent drop in salary between 2000 and 2001, from $115,402 to $91,000. While CCIEs do expect to make up some ground in 2002, the average salary is expected to be $99,000 - a decline of 14 percent.

Lower level Cisco certifications saw a drop in salaries too, but not as severe. The entry-level certification, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA See Cisco certification. (TM)), plunged 8.5 percent and the Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA CCDA Cisco Certified Design Associate

(TM)) dropped 5 percent between 2000 and 2001.

"The reduction in salaries can be attributed to three main factors, the softer economic climate, the popularity of the Cisco certification program and the weakened telecommunications and service provider industries. Basically you are seeing the effects of supply and demand," said Dian Schaffhauser, Editorial Director of TCPmag.com and its sister publication Microsoft Certified Professional See Microsoft certification.  Magazine.

TCPmag.com also found that:
-- Cisco professionals receiving stock options are down from 31 percent in 2000
to 22 percent in 2001.

-- Forty-three percent of Cisco professionals do not expect to receive a
monetary bonus in 2002.

-- Survey respondents spent on average $2,200 on certification and training in
2001.

-- IT professionals considering a Cisco certification for its job promotion
opportunities may want to think again. Fifty-five percent of respondents said
certification hadn't led to a promotion in 2001.
