) disclosed today that it expects to benefit financially as a result of an agreement by Intel Corporation (company) Intel Corporation - A US microelectronics manufacturer. ) to acquire Basis Communications Corporation, a privately held venture in which Cirrus Logic holds a minority interest.

Under terms of the agreement, announced separately today, Intel would acquire Basis Communications in a transaction valued at approximately $450 million in cash and assumed options. Subject to the closing of the agreement by the respective parties, Cirrus Logic expects to report in the quarter ending June 2000, a benefit estimated between $80 to $85 million in cash.

It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  expertise on Internet entertainment applications.
