Cirrus Logic Follows Up Success in Low-Power Products with New Analog-to-Digital Converter; High-Quality Audio Capture for Portable Digital Audio Recording Applications.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Capitalizing on the success of its recently introduced codec for low-power portable audio applications, Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS) has launched a new low-power analog-to-digital converter (ADC), the CS53L21. This IC is designed to provide high quality audio capture capabilities for portable digital audio recording applications, such as digital voice recorders, voice recognition systems, digital microphones and audio video capture cards.

Based on an advanced multibit Delta Sigma architecture, the CS53L21 provides two channels of high-quality signal conversion with front-end analog integration to simplify designs and eliminate costly devices from customer designs. An input multiplexer allows for switching between three different stereo analog sources, followed by a programmable gain amplifier with a gain range of +12 dB to - 3 dB in 0.5 step sizes. An on-chip dual microphone preamplifier and a programmable low-noise bias supply for external electret microphones is also included. This high level of integration helps to enable smaller product form factors while reducing costs.

The CS53L21 supports independent control of the left and right channel audio, including digital volume control and mixing, automatic level control and the ability to disable the high pass filters for DC measurements.

Operating from a single power supply of either 1.8V or 2.5V, the CS53L21 consumes less than 9 mW of power and supports a direct interface to logic levels from 1.8V to 3.3V. The IC is offered in a small 32-lead QFN package (only 5mm x 5mm) and is specified at 98 dB dynamic range. The combination of performance, integration and low-power consumption make the CS53L21 ideal for battery powered audio recording devices.

Pricing and Availability

The CS53L21 is currently sampling to customers, with volume production

expected in the March quarter. The CS53L21 is available in a 32-lead QFN package and is priced at $1.75 quantities of 10,000.
