Cirrus Logic Fellow John Melanson Achieves 100th Patent Award Milestone.AUSTIN, Texas -- John Melanson, Academy Award-winning distinguished fellow with Cirrus Logic (company) Cirrus Logic - A manufacturer of integrated circuits including the Advanced RISC Machine and display interface processors and cards for use as Windows accelerators (requiring dedicated driver software). http://cirrus.com/. Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS crus (krus) pl. cru´ra [L.] 1. leg (1). 2. a leglike part. crus ce´rebri ), recently joined an elite group of innovators when he passed the threshold of achieving 100 patents. Melanson, 54, was recently awarded his 100th and 101st patent in a career that spans more than 30 years in the semiconductor and electronics industry. The majority of Melanson's patents were awarded for innovations in audio technologies, with many additional patents awarded in the fields of industrial and analog electronics. Melanson received his first patent in 1976, and his most recently awarded patent was titled "Signal Processing See DSP. System with Analog-to-Digital Converter Using Delta-Sigma Modulation The Delta-Sigma (ΔΣ) modulation is a kind of analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog conversion. An analog to digital converter (ADC) or DAC circuit which implements this technique can be easily realized using low-cost CMOS processes, such as the processes used to produce Having an Internal Stabilizer stabilizer: see airplane. Loop." In 2003, Melanson received a Scientific and Engineering Award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his significant contributions to the evolution of digital audio editing for motion picture post-production. "John's achievement solidifies his position among the leading innovators in the audio and analog fields," said Mike Hackworth, acting president and chief executive officer, Cirrus Logic. "John has led a distinguished career, and many of his numerous patents have led to breakthrough products that have helped Cirrus Logic to become a leading innovator of analog and mixed-signal audio integrated circuits." Melanson, who joined Cirrus Logic in 1999, focuses his work on advanced product development. He resides in both Austin and Estes Park, Colo., and is a distinguished alumnus ALUMNUS, civil law.
