Cirrus Logic's Nine Series of ARM9-based embedded processors, launched in 2004, are increasingly being selected by OEMs who note the chip family's appeal due to a wide selection of optimally integrated system-on-a-chip (SoC) products, from the value-oriented EP9301 to the flagship EP9315, as well as the Seven Series of ARM7-based embedded processors. The Nine Series product line couples a powerful ARM9 microprocessor with a wide variety of peripherals, including IDE, 2D accelerated graphics and networking.

In the consumer market, Cirrus Logic's EP7312 embedded processor is powering the popular Zipit(TM) Wireless Messenger handheld device that capitalizes on the Wi-Fi and instant messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or  (IM) craze by easily connecting to "hotspot" Wi-Fi networks See wireless Ethernet and 802.11. , giving users instant messaging capabilities without having to sign up for additional monthly services. With an average retail cost of under $99, the product is becoming particularly popular with young consumers.

The Control4(R) Media Controller, based upon the EP9312 embedded processor, is an innovative consumer "jukebox A storage device for multiple sets of CD-ROMs, DVDs, tape cartridges or disk modules. Using carousels, robot arms and other methods, a jukebox physically moves the storage medium from its assigned location to an optical or magnetic station for reading and writing. " product that not only stores and streams digital audio throughout the home on wired or wireless networks, but also doubles as the center of a complete home automation system.

"The Control4 Media Controller is at the heart of a truly automated home system that is delivering digital music entertainment and sophisticated automation of household tasks such as lighting, temperature control and security monitoring," said Jim Gist, director of business development for Control 4. "Cirrus Logic's EP9312 embedded processor was the right IC solution because it offered superior integration of features, such as built-in IDE hard drive support, that was key to helping keep final product costs down."

Extending the experience to the user, Control4's Wireless Mini Touch Screen, which also uses the EP9312, provides a wall-mounted user interface control center with rich color graphics The ability to display graphic images in colors.  and a simple-to-use touch-screen operation. The touch screen also serves as an "instant audio zone," providing music to the location where it is mounted. It can also receive and deliver audio streams, wired or wireless, to any amplifier on the system. The EP9312's high-speed graphics subsystem gives designers PC-like human-interface capabilities in a low-cost SoC product.

The EP7312, noted for its low-power consumption abilities, is also featured in the innovative Belkin Digital Camera Link for Apple(TM) iPod(TM) devices. This product expands the iPod's ability to store digital images, in addition to digital music collections.

Cirrus Logic's embedded processors are provided with all the necessary driver software, as well as Linux and Microsoft's(R) Windows(R) CE .NET operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. In practice, many of these groupings may overlap. , which are optimized and fully supported by an in-house Cirrus Logic software development and support team.
