), the world's leading supplier of audio ICs, today introduced the CS4392, a high performance Crystal(R) digital-to-analog converter that delivers unrivaled sound quality while providing manufacturers a cost-effective solution for next generation DVD-based audio products including DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD (SACD (Super Audio CD) A high-resolution CD audio format from Sony and Philips. SACD and DVD-Audio (DVD-A) were the two next-generation digital audio formats for enhanced sound quality, but neither one caught on (see high-resolution audio). ) players.

The unprecedented price/performance of the CS4392 facilitates the mainstream market adoption of DVD-Audio and SACD players, which is driven by consumer demand for high quality audio performance at an affordable price. Consumer demand has made the DVD player the fastest growing consumer audio product in the market. "Worldwide Consumer Electronics Semiconductor Market Forecast" by Dataquest Inc., a unit of Gartner Group Inc., forecasts sales for 2000 at 18 million units growing to 71 million units in 2004.

The CS4392 builds on the success of the CS4391 and is the latest product offering in a pin-compatible family of Crystal D/A Converters, thus allowing manufacturers to achieve better performance and sound quality with minimal design effort. In addition to improved dynamic range (114dB) and THD+N THD+N Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise  (-100dB) performance, the CS4392 offers selectable digital filters, providing design flexibility and the means to customize system performance in order to achieve the best listening experience for any given application.

"The CS4392 demonstrates our leadership at providing optimal analog solutions for rapidly emerging audio products such as Universal DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

and SACD players," said Jason Carlson, vice president and general manager for Cirrus Logic's Consumer Products Division. "By providing a pin-compatible family of high performance D/A Converter products, we enable manufacturers to maximize audio performance, reduce development cost, and accelerate their time to market with affordable next generation DVD-based audio products."

The CS4392 delivers the best price/performance of any product in its class and is ideal for use in a variety of professional and consumer audio applications that require a high performance, cost competitive D/A Converter solution. Such applications include DVD players, A/V receivers, mixing consoles, outboard converters and effects processors.

The CS4392 utilizes Cirrus Logic's broad patent portfolio for support of SACD (Direct Stream Digital technology) and compatibility with DVD-Audio (24-bit, 192kHz sample rates) in a single chip solution. Other Cirrus Logic patented mixed-signal technologies employed in the CS4392 include a proprietary delta sigma modulator Modulator

Pricing and Availability

The CS4392 is priced at $2.80 in OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  quantities and will be shipping in the fourth quarter. It is available in a 20-pin TSSOP TSSOP Thin Shrink Small Outline Package
